Description

A fantastic pith helmet in a japanned cased tin to Major General Charles Monro, former commander and chief for all forces in India and commander responsible for Britain's evacuation from Gallipoli following Hamilton's disastrous amphibious landing. The helmet dates between 1916-18 from when he was C&C in India as the Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and George (GCMG) was elevated to Knights Grand Cross in 1918 and the Knights Grand Cross of the Order of Bath (KGB) was awarded in 1916.
