Description

British School, 19th Century - Portrait of Maria Brown, wife of William Brown, along with their daughter Maria, circa 1830s - Oil on canvas - 90 x 69cm, framed 101 x 80cm. William Brown was the great-great-grandfather of Aubrey Brown (d. 1935) who opened his first silk tie store in 1919 and founded Holliday & Brown in 1926. The company recently joined the Mantero stable alongside Prada and is now headquartered at Lake Como.

Provenance: Descended within the family of the sitter. Condition Report: Very minor and well-executed retouching in places. Craquelure throughout.
