Description

A fine Regency mahogany commode chair, dating from circa 1820–1830, presented in excellent condition and retaining its original chamber pot.

The chair has a well-documented provenance, having remained in the ownership of the Craven family for over a century. The earliest recorded owner is Walter Craven (born 1867, Rutland), who worked as a painter and chemist.

It was later inherited by Rex Craven (born 1897), who was reputed to keep a bottle of whisky concealed within the chamber pot for use in cases of “urgent medical need”—a characterful anecdote that adds charm and historical interest to the piece.

Height 92cm x 58cm wide.
