Description

A rare percussion Brunswick P1837-type .704 calibre long rifle, distinguished by its unusually long 40-inch barrel. The barrel features the characteristic two-groove rifling designed for the Brunswick belted ball and is fitted with two blade sights and a bayonet bar. The rifle retains a back-action percussion lock.

No visible maker’s or military markings are present, although the barrel has not been removed to examine the underside for proofs or other marks.

Believed to be an early 1840s example, it displays the early first-pattern bayonet bar together with a later-pattern butt plate—an interesting combination of features on an unusual Brunswick-type rifle.
