P1841 NCO's Brunwick Smoothbore Musket And Bayonet

This item has been purchased.

Description

A late-model NCO’s P1841 Brunswick smoothbored East India Company musket. Not to be confused with a rifle, NCOs were issued rifle imitations to allow them to maintain a steady rate of fire despite the challenges of fouling caused by poor-quality gunpowder.

Marked East India Company, with very faded British proof marks on the barrel. The mechanism cocks on half. No regimental markings are visible.

Includes bayonet. Bayonet slots, but it does not fix securely due to the handmade nature of its production. The bayonet is a WD marked Brunswick dated 1858.
