Description

A historic 19th century, 'Great Eastern' mahogany firescreen, circa 1860. The plain rectangular frame mounted with a woodwork picture depicting the Great Eastern ship, reverse with tapestry of a flying duck, beneath baluster with handle, on four feet. Size approx. 71 x 83 cm.
Note; Great Eastern was massive iron steamship built in London between 1854-1958. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It was the largest ship in the world for over 40 years and it could carry 4000 passengers but was a commercial failure.
In great condition.
