Having married Captain Geoffrey Bowlby in 1911, they had two children before he was killed in 1915. During the war, Lettice was commandant of the auxiliary hospital and was twice mentioned in dispatched. She was lady in waiting to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen's Mother from 1923-1927.
