Description

An original British Airborne Denison Smock dating from the post-1946 period. Commonly referred to as the Third Pattern or 1946 Pattern, this version retained many of the features of the wartime Second Pattern smock and remained in service with British and Commonwealth airborne forces for many years. The Denison Smock continued as standard combat clothing for the Royal Marines and the Parachute Regiment until the mid-1970s.

This example displays the distinctive screen-printed camouflage pattern, featuring a light sand-coloured base overlaid with broad green and reddish-brown brushstrokes. Characteristic post-war features include knitted cuffs, nickel-plated Newey press studs, a brass Swift half-zip with its original pendant pull, shoulder epaulettes, a wool-lined collar, and the distinctive rear fishtail, which fastens to the front using the original press studs.

The original internal label is still present, although it has faded through laundering and is no longer legible.

Presented in good overall condition, the smock exhibits honest service wear consistent with its age. It retains its original knitted cuffs and remains complete throughout, making it an excellent example with strong display appeal as well as being perfectly wearable.
